FILING FOR FAFSA*: Parents' checklist
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Drivers license or state id
- W-2 Forms and other records of other sources of income from the past year
- 2005 Federal Income Tax Return- IRS Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, foreign tax return, or tax return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or Palau
- Your teenager's 2005 Federal Income Tax Return (if you are a dependent student)
- Your 2005 untaxed income records - Social Security, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, welfare, or veterans benefits records
- You and your teenager's most recent bank statements
- You and your teenager's most recent business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond, and other investment records
- Your alien registration number or permanent residence card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
- Online pin number for both you and your teenager on the FAFSA website (if you intent to apply online)
- High school federal code (Located on the FAFSA website and your teenager's guidance counselor should have it)
* FAFSA stands for "Free Application Federal Student Aid". The government offers free money and loans to college-bound students. The amount is based on your child's income, your spouse's income and your own individual income.
