The College Athlete

  • Search for colleges that meet your expectations and criteria. Do this during your junior year of high school.
  • Get in contact with the coach of your sport by sending a video and letter with your introduction and resume. Make sure the video only includes points in the game where you are featured so the coach can focus solely on those parts. In the letter, make sure to include the following information:
    • TIP: Don't make your letter too long, keep in mind that this is just a minor introduction.
  • Your resume should include:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Phone/fax/e-mail
    • Date of birth
    • GPA, SAT/ACT
    • List of high school courses
    • Sports involvement and positions in these sports
    • Height, weight
    • Athletic accomplishments and awards
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Name and contact information of your current coach

  • If you decide to become a college athlete until later on, you can always talk to the coach at the college you are attending at in regards to trying out for the team. Just keep in mind that you may need to work harder than other athletes because the coaches do not know what to expect from you. Coaches do not mind that you are a walk-on athlete.
